Identify the concern before choosing treatment
A hypertrophic scar stays within the original wound, while a keloid extends beyond it. Scar age, location, symptoms, previous injections, surgery and family history affect the management plan.
A doctor-led consultation reviews the appearance, history, previous treatment, skin type and relevant medical factors. The purpose is to select a suitable mechanism, not to force every concern into the same device or injectable.

Safety, limitations and realistic expectations
Keloids can recur or enlarge after treatment. Possible effects include pain, pigment change, skin thinning, visible vessels, ulceration and treatment-resistant recurrence. No method guarantees permanent removal.
Results vary. No treatment is also a valid option. The doctor may recommend observation, staged treatment, a test area or referral when that is safer.

What is the difference between a keloid and hypertrophic scar?
A hypertrophic scar generally remains within the wound boundary, while a keloid extends beyond it.
Can a keloid be cut out permanently?
Surgery alone may carry a significant recurrence risk. A doctor should discuss whether combination management is appropriate.
Can laser remove a keloid?
Laser may be considered for selected scar features, but it is not a guaranteed standalone cure and requires assessment.
Should I mention old keloids before another aesthetic treatment?
Yes. A history of keloid formation may change the suitability and risk discussion for procedures that injure the skin.
Start with a doctor-led assessment
Tell the clinic which concern you want assessed, which location you prefer and whether you are travelling from Singapore. Bring details of previous procedures, products, medicines and relevant medical history.
