Identify the concern before choosing treatment
Hypertrophic scars and keloids are not interchangeable. A recent red raised scar may change over time, while an older firm scar may behave differently. Acne scars also require a separate classification.
A doctor-led consultation reviews the appearance, history, previous treatment, skin type and relevant medical factors. The purpose is to select a suitable mechanism, not to force every concern into the same device or injectable.

Safety, limitations and realistic expectations
Treatment can cause redness, discomfort, pigment change, infection, skin thinning, worsening or recurrence. Active raised scars should not be treated like flat acne scars.
Results vary. No treatment is also a valid option. The doctor may recommend observation, staged treatment, a test area or referral when that is safer.

Will a hypertrophic scar flatten naturally?
Some improve during scar maturation, but the degree and timeline vary.
Is it the same as a keloid?
No. Hypertrophic scars usually remain inside the original wound boundary.
Can fractional laser treat a raised scar?
It may be considered in selected cases, but timing, scar activity and skin type must be assessed.
Can treatment worsen the scar?
Yes. Irritation or additional trauma may worsen some scars, which is why conservative planning matters.
Start with a doctor-led assessment
Tell the clinic which concern you want assessed, which location you prefer and whether you are travelling from Singapore. Bring details of previous procedures, products, medicines and relevant medical history.
