01 / How it works
OZEMPIC contains semaglutide, which belongs to a class of medicines called glucagon-like peptide-1 (GLP-1) receptor agonists. It acts on receptors involved in glucose-dependent insulin release, glucagon regulation, appetite, fullness, and gastric emptying. This mechanism primarily helps adults with type 2 diabetes lower their HbA1c and manage fasting and post-meal blood glucose levels.
Because semaglutide slows down gastric emptying, patients often feel fuller for longer, which can lead to a reduction in body weight. However, OZEMPIC is not a miracle cure, nor does it permanently reset your metabolism or directly melt body fat. The insulin-related effect is glucose-dependent, meaning hypoglycaemia (low blood sugar) risk is generally managed, but this risk increases significantly if used alongside insulin or sulfonylureas. For selected adults with type 2 diabetes who have established cardiovascular disease or high risk, the Malaysian indication also includes reduction of major adverse cardiovascular events. Trial averages, however, do not predict individual outcomes, and ongoing medical supervision is mandatory.

Who may benefit
OZEMPIC is a powerful prescription medicine that requires careful medical screening. Our doctors conduct comprehensive consultations to confirm your type 2 diabetes diagnosis, review current medications (like metformin or insulin), and assess kidney and liver function.
Off-Label Considerations: If Medi Clinic considers prescribing OZEMPIC for a purpose outside its current Malaysian registered indication (such as general weight management), our doctor will explain why it is being considered, outline registered alternatives, discuss evidence and uncertainties, and require your informed consent. We do not prescribe to individuals seeking a quick “beach-body package” or those who want medication without medical assessment. Patients with a personal or family history of medullary thyroid carcinoma (MTC), Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia type 2 (MEN 2), or those planning pregnancy require strict evaluation. A consultation at our JB clinic never guarantees a prescription.

If our doctors determine that OZEMPIC is medically appropriate for you, we will verify product authenticity by confirming the NPRA registration (MAL number), batch details, and cold-chain storage. We will clearly differentiate between OZEMPIC, WEGOVY (a separate weight-management brand), RYBELSUS (oral tablets), and MOUNJARO, explaining that they are not interchangeable.
Follow-up Reviews: Diabetes and weight-related health management is a continuous process. We arrange follow-ups to monitor your HbA1c, body weight changes, and gastrointestinal tolerance. We do not encourage unsafe practices like “click counting” to create unapproved doses, sharing pens, or relying solely on medication without sustainable nutrition and physical activity. Patients travelling via the Causeway or Tuas Second Link appreciate that we focus on comprehensive metabolic health rather than selling quick fixes.

It should not automatically be presented as a Malaysian-registered general weight-management treatment. The current local indication must be verified. While some patients lose weight, responses vary, and trial averages do not guarantee individual results.
No. While they all contain semaglutide, they are separate brands with different strengths, indications, and treatment plans. RYBELSUS is an oral formulation, and WEGOVY has a separate weight-management indication. They are not interchangeable.
Acute pancreatitis is a serious potential risk. If you experience severe persistent abdominal pain that may extend toward the back, you require prompt medical assessment. Do not attempt to restart the medication without medical guidance.
