Expression lines. Start with what you notice.

A concern-led guide to forehead lines, frown lines and changes around the eyes. Understand the observation before choosing a treatment.

Clear information. Considered choices. A consultation comes first.
Understanding your concern

The same word can describe different observations.

“Wrinkles” is a broad description. Before asking how to remove them, notice where the lines appear, whether they change with movement, and what about them concerns you.

A person might use the word for fine lines near the eyes, a crease between the brows or a deeper fold beside the mouth. Those observations are not interchangeable. A useful assessment moves from your description to the underlying concern, rather than assigning one product to every line.

Natural expression also matters. Smiling, concentrating and raising the eyebrows change the shape of the face. The aim of a discussion is not necessarily to remove every sign of movement. Explain which expressions you want to preserve and whether a line bothers you all the time or mainly in photographs.

This page helps organise that conversation. It does not grade your appearance, diagnose a condition or suggest that normal facial ageing must be treated. You can use it simply to understand terminology.

A better description

Bring an observation, not a diagnosis.

Where do you notice the change?

Point to the area and describe it in your own words. “The line between my eyebrows looks deeper when I concentrate” is helpful. So is “this fold is still visible when I relax.” You do not need to know muscle names, injection points or the commercial name of a treatment to begin.

When do you notice it?

Think about ordinary situations: natural daylight, a video call, smiling with friends or looking in a mirror. Avoid repeatedly checking under unusually harsh lighting. If photographs help communicate your concern, use a small number of unfiltered images rather than a collection of edited comparisons.

What change would matter to you?

Try separating the feature you notice from the outcome you imagine. Wanting to look less tense is different from wanting every crease to vanish. The clinician can explain the limits of the proposed approach only if the goal is clear. A useful conversation also gives you space to decide that the possible benefit is not worth the trade-offs.

What else should the clinician know?

Mention previous treatments, existing asymmetry and any eye, brow or facial-function concerns. Bring records if they are available. Do not assume that a treatment you had elsewhere used the same product simply because it was described with a familiar nickname.

Move from concern to options

Different causes require different discussions.

Muscle-focused treatment, volume-focused treatment and skin-focused care are separate categories. A comparison is useful because the categories can sound similar in advertising while addressing different questions. It is less useful when it is presented as a contest in which one treatment must always win.

For selected movement-related lines, you may wish to read about a BOTOX consultation. If your question is about a fold or a loss of volume, read the BOTOX and dermal filler comparison to understand why a different discussion may be needed. These links explain options; they do not establish your suitability.

For skin quality, ask whether dryness, texture, sun exposure or another skin concern needs attention. A broad skincare label is not enough to select an active ingredient or a procedure. Mention products that irritate your skin, and ask what is appropriate for your own routine.

There is also a no-procedure pathway. You might decide to seek information, maintain your usual care, and return only if the concern remains important to you. A clear decision to wait is different from having an incomplete consultation.

Before you travel

Make the appointment useful.

If you are visiting from Singapore, confirm the branch and appointment before arranging transport. Eco Botanic is in Iskandar Puteri; a message saying only “Medi Clinic JB” may not identify the branch you intend to visit. Keep the address and contact number available during the trip.

Prepare three questions: what is likely contributing to the concern, what options are reasonable to discuss, and what happens if you choose not to proceed. Add your own priorities, such as a coming event, limited time for follow-up or a wish to preserve a particular expression.

Leave room for uncertainty. You may need more information before deciding. Ask for an explanation you can understand rather than accepting a long list of product names. If several treatments are proposed, ask which concern each one addresses and whether they need to happen together.

Keep the distinction between education and an individual plan. An online guide can explain vocabulary and questions. It cannot assess muscle function, examine your skin, verify a medicine or judge your medical history. Those steps belong to the consultation.

Observe without overdiagnosing

Movement, rest and context belong in the same description.

Notice whether the line appears only with expression, remains visible at rest or changes with fatigue, lighting and skin dryness. That description is more useful than deciding from a selfie that one named treatment is required. Natural facial movement, texture and asymmetry vary, and the assessment should connect the visible feature to the function you want to preserve.

Use recent unfiltered photographs only as memory aids. Match expression, angle and light where possible, and avoid a dramatic “before” face beside a relaxed “after” face. A change in pose can create an apparent improvement that has nothing to do with treatment. The new images on this page are educational scenes, not outcomes.

Mention eyelid, brow, vision, headache, facial weakness, previous surgery or earlier injections when relevant. Bring the exact product and date if known. A clinician may need to separate movement-related lines from volume, skin quality or another issue before discussing options.

If you live in Singapore, avoid scheduling a first-time decision around a fixed flight or event. Ask about the likely early course, review timing and the signs that require local assessment. Convenience should not compress consent or turn an uncertain concern into same-day treatment.

The most useful goal may be softer movement, a change visible at rest, improved skin comfort or simply reassurance about normal ageing. State which matters to you. The clinician can then explain what a proposed pathway could reasonably address and what would remain unchanged.

Answers to common questions

Your questions, explained.

Are wrinkles automatically a medical problem?

Facial lines can be part of normal ageing and expression. A cosmetic concern does not create an obligation to have treatment. New symptoms or changes that worry you should be discussed with a clinician.

What is a dynamic line?

It is a description for a line that becomes more apparent with movement, such as frowning or lifting the eyebrows. The term helps describe an observation; it does not establish which treatment is suitable.

What is a static line?

It describes a line that remains visible when the face is relaxed. Several factors may contribute, so reducing movement alone may not address the whole concern.

Should I choose a product before my appointment?

You can ask about a product you have read about, but you do not need to arrive with a treatment selected. Start by explaining the area and the change you hope to understand.

Can a selfie replace an assessment?

No. A photograph can help explain your question, but lighting, camera distance, filters and expression affect what it shows. It does not provide a complete assessment of facial function or medical history.

Which page should I read next?

Read the BOTOX service guide for a muscle-focused consultation, the comparison guide to distinguish BOTOX from filler, or the product guide for questions about brand identity. None replaces individual clinical advice.

Why do expression and lighting matter in photographs?

They can change how deep a line appears, so matched conditions are important when images are used for discussion.

Are the new images on this page before-and-after results?

No. The photographs show observation and consultation questions. They do not document a treatment result.
